Christmas Food Basket Distribution
The Christmas Food Baskets began as a small ministry in 1975 serving 150 to 200 familes. Then in 1983, Snider High School got involved and now they are serving nearly 1,000 families. Currently Snider, Elmhurst, North Side, Bishop Luers, St. John the Baptist and Anthis Career Center are involved in the Christmas Food Basket program. The high school students canvass their neighborhoods and conduct in-school projects to collect canned goods for distribution with the food boxes. Last year they collected 25,000 food items. St. Mary’s purchases a 20-lb bag of potatoes and either a turkey or ham (recipient’s choice) to complete the Christmas box that is designed to feed the recipient family over the Christmas and New Year holidays.Sign-up is the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
