East Side/West Side
Wellspring is the newer name (2004) of what used to be called the West Central Neighborhood Ministry (and West Central Neighborhood Committee before that).
What St. Mary's helped to create (in 1991) is East Side, West Side, the after school and summer program for children and families. This is only one of Wellspring's many programs and services. Wellspring itself (organized in 1968 long before any St. M involvement) is supported by an ecumenical and interfaith group of 16 congregations, individual and corporate contributions, and foundation grants.
In the past, St. Mary's financial support has been designated solely for East Side, West Side through underwriting a portion of Lois Ehinger's salary and a cook's salary for the after school suppers that are a part of East Side, West Side. Frank Zirille has been the executive director of Wellspring since 2005 and is a member of St. Mary's. Lois Ehinger is the Youth Director.
